pi-guiro-lrgThe guiro is a percussion instrument commonly used throughout Latin-America. Originally created using a gourd, modern models are made from both wood and plastic. The guiro has ridges cut into the surface of it. One typically holds the guiro in one hand and plays it by rubbing a stick up and down over the ridges. Rhythms are made by combining long and short strokes up and down the guiro.
